Clinicians Who Care

I feel like he saved my life. For over 10+ years I was told by several OBGYN’s that I had a fibroid the size of a lemon (starting 1998 - 2022): and that it would eventually shrink as I got older. I was told it wasn’t getting bigger. Yet for years I endured painful sex (the older I became). I ended up leaving a 11 year relationship because sex was so painful. I was told in 2021 that I could get a hysterectomy to alleviate the pain but they kept postponing the surgery more than 5 times. I left these doctors and started searching for another GYN and found another doctor that just kept doing ultrasounds and multiple tests but not scheduling the surgery. She was just using me to run up bills to collect from my insurance company. I then found Dr Fernandez who thankfully listened to me cry and explain my whole life on his examination table. I was so exhausted, saddened and aggravated with over 20 years of doctors not listening and hearing me about my pain. I know my body became after all, I have been living in this body for years. He literally sat back in his chair and compassionately listened to me express my fears for this pain in my body. He didn’t speak until I got it ALL out. Then he said he did need one test to know if he could help me, so I pulled up a test that I had just done with the last doctor and he said it was just what he needed to make his decision. He opened up his schedule and told me he could do my surgery in 2 days. It took him 20 minutes to her me and it took everyone else years. Fast forward; after the surgery was finished, he came in my room and told me that he was glad I came to him because my fibroid had grown to the size of a cantaloupe and was not in my uterus but behind it. Which explains the years of painful sex. He said that in the middle of the surgery, he had to have another doctor assist him with removing the fibroid. I am a black woman who has and still is dealing with various types of doctors who have you in and out within minutes. Barely any eye contact and everything is put in a computer like I’m in an assembly line. There’s no real connection anymore just questions and no real results. I miss the 70’s & 80’s when doctors really seemed to care and I didn’t have to tell them to go get your stethoscope so that you can check my lungs and heart. I highly recommend Dr Fernandez!!! He cares.
