I saw Dr. Karst when she was still at a PT/yoga practice and was skeptical that she could help me with my interstitial cystitis, but she did far more than any provider ever had. My urogynecologist had a PT in-office who identified my tight hip flexors as my biggest contributing issue, but didn't give any recommendations to address it besides more PT and stretching my pelvic muscles, which didn't help. I saw other specialists, medications didn't help. When I saw Kailee, she listened so intently and was incredibly reassuring, took all of my concerns seriously, and agreed with me when I told her I felt like my posture was causing problems. She put me in front of a mirror and we talked about my entire body, part by part she shifted me into different poses as she explained what she saw. She showed me how to stand up straighter, how to breathe deeper, emphasized that I needed to eat more, and we spent a huge portion of our sessions focused on my UPPER abdomen, not my pelvis. After just a few weeks I was holding myself differently, my hip flexors were looser, and my interstitial cystitis symptoms were nearly gone. It felt like a miracle. That was a few years ago and I no longer see her, but only because I don't need to. The changes she helped me make were long-lasting and effective. If I were feeling brave, I might say I'm pretty much cured. I will forever be grateful to her for showing me so much compassion and giving me back some control over my own body.
