Dr. Robin Ou-Yang was the only Doctor who listened to me! I was completely dismissed by several white doctors regarding a severe stabbing pain in my pelvic area. The pain affected my ability to work and white doctors dismissed it as “anxiety”. I was mocked by a white nurse who was training another nurse. She asked me what my symptoms were in front of the employee she was training, which my symptoms had already been documented, and then she repeated what I said back in a mocking tone. When I switched clinics and started seeing Dr. Robin Ou-Yang she asked all the right questions, and she patiently listened. She scheduled a Laparoscopy. My endometrial lining had spread to my bladder. My diagnosis is endometriosis. I started my period at 10 with: heavy bleeding, nausea, severe cramps, and PMDD symptoms. I thought these symptoms were normal to all women until receiving my diagnosis from Dr. Robin Ou-Yang. I initially did not make the connection that the stabbing pain could even be related.
