Heavy/Painful PeriodsListens & Believes PatientsPCOSPelvic PainReproductive AutonomyShared Decision MakingI have severe PMDD and had gone to 4 GYNs prior to her wanting my only ovary to be removed because I thought that if I was without it and on HRT I would no longer have the PMDD that was ruining my life. The prior 4 did absolutely nothing and refused any kind of treatment. Dr. Khadija listened to me and said that if I wanted my ovary removed, it was my choice (the first one to do so) but that I would go into a state of what would basically be permanent and severe PMDD that the replacement hormones may not be able to help. She spent 4 appointments over a year talking me into trying Mirena. I finally agreed and while the first 3 months were very rough because it had a period where it needed to level out, it worked. I still have small episodes of PMDD that are nowhere close to as severe and are manageable, usually without any kind of intervention. I do believe she saved my life because the PMDD brought on severe and unmanageable, almost constant depression.
