I had a series of awful experiences with a male Rheumatologist a 3 years ago and was ultimately diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis after he assured me I was too young at 29 to have anything serious. This year, I had a drastic and uncharacteristic recurrence of symptoms that then escalated beyond anything I'd experienced before. Coincidentally, I had an appt to establish care with an NP I had sent my wife to see ahead of me to "screen" her as a potential provider for me. Because I had just gone to UC and the ED two days prior, Taryn was understandably overwhelmed by what she thought was a new patient appt turning into an ED follow-up but took it in stride. About a week later, I returned with my wife in tow, as she was convinced I had Lyme Disease wanted to ensure we'd get answers and a feasible treatment plan. Taryn recognized my wife after seeing her just once months before, and proceeded to listen intently, admit she didn't have all the answers, and lay out an explicit plan for what we would do, in what order, to get to the bottom of it. I tested postivie for Lyme disease, which was treated promptly and resolved without issue. I truly appreciated Taryn's willingness to actually listen, not tell me my symptoms were stress/anxiety/psychosomatic, and ensure that her practice partners would provide timely follow-up since she was going to be out of office in the weeks following my second visit.
