My old family doctor would say hurtful things to my mother and me about it. During my teen years, while dealing with very painful periods, I only ever heard the “just lose weight” routine. One day my old family doctor wasn’t available for a sick visit, and that’s when I met Dr. Chan. She was so attentive and kind toward me that I begged my mom to switch her to my new primary care physician. If it weren’t for that switch, I would have never been referred to Hershey Medical Center to find out why I had such bad periods. It turned out I had cysts causing the heavy bleeding and fatigue that lasted my whole cycle. Since Dr. Chan got involved in my care, I’ve been able to turn my life around. I’m now an adult who has lost over 200 lbs, going from 350 lbs down to my current weight. Nowadays I have easier 4-day periods, more energy, and feel happier with myself than ever before. I will not see anyone else for my general health — she is that amazing. Her care is effective and efficient, and she is deeply empathetic and knowledgeable about her patients. She treats you like family she genuinely cares about.
