Technically I’m both a colleague and a patient. I’m his surgical coordinator at the office but he also delivered my daughter via c-section, put in and removed my nexplanon, and put in my Mirena. Each experience was a breeze (including the c-section for the most part. I was pushing for two hours and told him I couldn’t do it anymore. Despite the chaos, he made sure I was fully informed and instead of swaying my decision one way or the other, he allowed me to make the choice on my own. Something I’ve always appreciated) After seeing your video, I sent it to him with the following message which I think sums him up better than I could here: I’m going to submit you for this list if it’s cool. Not that you’ve magically cured ME or diagnosed me with anything (I mean let’s be real, how many more diagnoses are left), but you did deliver my child and made sure I was very informed in my decision and really helped me feel in control of a situation where there is little to be had. You listened. And I appreciate that. But really from watching you work. Advocating for pain management in procedures, trying to make sure we have addiction and mental health resources (especially for PP patients) but overall making suggestions that would help patients receive the best standard of care that we can offer them. And from the way I’ve seen you treat patients who were on their fifth opinion or hadn’t seen an OBGYN in 10 years or were scared or traumatized or considering abortion, WHATEVER it might be honestly. You listen. You give a shit. Even if your day is fucked, you’ll take the time out with a patient who’s really struggling. To be doing so soon after becoming partner in a practice is a direct reflection of your character and integrity not only as a physician, but as a human being. Idk. It sounds like she’s compiling a list and I just FELT you deserve to be on there. Idk how many potential patients will ever see it, but either way credit where credit is due.
