I was never asked about whether my theoretical future husband would approve of my decision to get a hysterectomy- she heard why I wanted one and supported me the whole way through it. I have never had a pelvic exam or pap smear before. Instead of forcing me through the dysphoria of doing a pelvic exam while awake, she did the entire exam while I was under anesthesia. Before my surgery she walked me through every step to ease my fears. I felt supported and listened to throughout the entire process.
