Dr. Nicole George was truly my saving grace. She listened, validated my concerns, and ordered the right labs and imaging which led to a rheumatology referral for further workup. Ultimately, I was diagnosed with Lupus. It was a process but Dr. George remained attentive and present in my care. Even when my rheumatologist downplayed my symptoms and treatment concerns, Dr. George believed me. She trusted that I was in pain, just as I described, and she validated my experience. She went a step further by giving me questions to take back to my rheumatologist so I could advocate for myself. She referred me to pain management and consistently went above and beyond for my care. She became a part of my research team and walked with me through every stage of grief. I will never forget the day I broke down crying in her office. That was not like me at all but I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and tired of fighting. Instead of rushing me, she sat with me, gave me space to express myself, and reassured me that it was okay to cry. Her words, her presence, and her compassion reminded me that things would be okay and that she would do everything in her power as my doctor to help me.
