I had un-medicated type 2 diabetes & was 'non-compliant'-unwilling to follow any treatment plan. Dr. Kodl was the 1st Dr. I saw who didn't automatically tell me I needed to loss weight & then continually focus on what I was doing to that end. Rather, he asked me questions about my lifestyle, living conditions, emotional state/wellbeing, & my knowledge about the disease. He listened thoughtfully to my answers & took the time to cultivated a relationship with me, promoting trust, acceptance & a sense of collaboration. He was never judgmental or superior towards me, but always curious & caring; asked me to try little thing each visit & then discussing the results at the next visit. If something didn't feel good to me, he didn't push it, but would then discuss other options or methods 'we' might want to try. He has been my Dr. for over 25 years & with his guidance & care, my blood sugars continue to be under control without the need for insulin shots.
