I have suffered from chronic allergies and constant sinus infections whole life thinking my condition would subside with age. Recently within the last 4-5 years or so I began developing chronic migraines that no one I went to seemed to have an answer for. There was, however, some increased mucous thickening picked up in a head MRI scan I had done and for that, I was sent to Dr. Crosby. Firstly, even though I can communicate well with others, as someone in the spectrum and with anxiety which I'm medicated for, conversations with new people especially in a doctor's office where I haven't always had the best success attaining answers can feel slightly daunting. She immediately put me at ease, and said that even though the mucous thickening at that time did not look troubling, she would be monitoring me for the next few months in hopes that it would improve. When inevitably my sinuses became infected again, she would automatically have prescription antibiotics filled for me without need for an additional appointment. She would always take to.e to have through conversations with me every visit to assess how I felt before examining me with an endoscope to see for herself what was going on. Throughout this whole process, she was incredibly candid but compassionate with her assessments, so when things failed to improve, she was open with me about the two treatment options I had remaining. To avoid these constant and quite frankly debilitating infections, I could either keep taking medications that might suppress the effects but also cause potential long term damage to my immune system, or I could get a surgery to open up my sinus cavities and take a trial medication that would reduce the inflammation in my sinus tissues. I chose to get surgery, and though she agreed this was the best choice for my case, she was also fantastic at articulating the potential risks of the procedure and the percentages of likelihood for each of them occuring. With my decision being informed I set the date for the procedure, which surprisingly would only be two weeks away from this appointment. However, at the very last possible opportunity, my insurance denied the ore authorization a day before the scheduled surgery and thus it was cancelled until further notice. However, within minutes of contacting Dr. Crosby's team and telling them they'd denied my claim due to lack of medical evidence, their work swiftly began in ensuring this procedure went forward as quickly as possible. Dr. Crosby wrote a 500 page letter containing all of my pertinent medical records and her own analyses to my insurance company and within days they overturned their denial of service. Needless to say, I got the surgery in March of this year, and even though I still have occasional infections and allergies that cannot be cured, I have a diagnosis for what I've struggled with all my life and can breath in a way I didn't even know was possible.
