I am a patient with a long and complex medical and mental health history. I went to 7 different psychiatrists who kept passing me on to a more experienced psychiatrist, a more specialized one, one better equipped to deal with complex patients. This doctor had spent 20 minutes out of an assesment appointment, said this was too complex to do in one session. Called me back in 3 days and asked me to bring someone who has lived with me for a long time. He put together a panel of 3 psychiatrists, who all spent a whole day with me and my family, gave me a completely redone list of meds and diagnoses, and has since supported me very well. I saw a psychiatrist for the first time when I was 16, and never had a ome who went to these lengths to provide the care I needed. Oh and despite all the extra effort that went into this, it only cost the same as a regular "full evaluation", which typically only involves one psychiatrist and 60-90 minutes of time.
