Chronic PainEDS / HypermobilityTrauma-Informed CareTrans-AffirmingAccepts MedicaidListens & Believes PatientsI had been struggling with chronic pain for years. For several of those, I suspect EDS, but previous providers told me there was "no way I met the criteria" without ever running me through the diagnostic list. Eventually, I believed them. Dr. Hill has been a vastly different experience. Not only has he taken everything I've ever said seriously, but when we went through the diagnostic list together (and found out I do have EDS,) he wanted to go through the entire list no matter what to understand where to focus my care if I had leaned HSD instead of EDS. During my screening he even fact checked himself and realized he had been using outdated criteria, and not the most recent one. I really appreciated that he was more focused on making sure I was taken care of than being right, and that he was willing to acknowledge a mistake (that was ultimately harmless) in front of me. Dr. Hill also works in the gender pathways clinic, and was aware of the correlation between trans people and a higher rate of EDS, which was all the more reason he wanted to screen me just in case I had been overlooked. This extra bit of knowledgeability is something I always appreciate! Not long after we started working together, I began getting PNES from my chronic pain, and Dr. Hill was once again one of the biggest advocates in my corner who helped give me my life back after a chapter of it was completely taken over by those seizures. I got to be in full control of if I went on more serious pain management or not for controlling them, and we discussed together the pros and cons of that. I never felt like I was making the wrong choice, so long as I was making the choice I felt would give me the most freedom in my life and I knew I only had to reach back out if I needed to adjust our plan. In his own words, the goal is always for me to live MY happiest, healthiest life. I appreciate that he's been nothing but kind and realistic with me, all while empowering me through giving me the support I need.
