I spent around 2k for different doctors, who were extremely rude 60 year old dudes and cannot legally prescribe anything, they pressure you to self-medicate, so their hands are clean. There's no legal path to transition, so every trans and intersex individual is self-medicated. So Visiting Dr.Galvez was literally life saving. She's specialised in transmasc individuals, her whole team consists of women, which creates a safe space. Speaks german, english and french. I avoid using gendered language or my own name, to not trigger doctors, but she insisted on knowing my chosen name and used affirming language to prove to me that I am a man and I shouldn't shy away from it. The whole experience was therapeutic, she spent at least 30 minutes, carefully explaining how my medication works, drawing diagrams, making future plans together. Smiles, makes jokes, makes compliments, to make you feel at ease. I went in expecting to be disrespected because of the language barrier, because I'm an immigrant, because I'm trans. None of that was ever brought up or shown in any way. It's like I went as a human being and nothing else mattered. Health insurance covers everything, from visit, to tests, medication.
