Clinicians Who Care

Dr. C, as her nurses and patients often call her, is someone who TRULY cares for her patients and goes above and beyond to make sure they receive the best quality of care possible—insurance be damned. If someone is too sick to make it to her clinic, but not sick enough to warrant a trip to the ER, she's the only doctor I know of who won't hesitate to make a house call. I also am probably not supposed to know this (a beyond reputable source told me this on the condition of secrecy, but I think it deserves to be told.. so, please do not get her in trouble), but after discovering cancer that was easily treatable in a patient, and he failed to show up for his subsequent appointment, she made all kinds of calls only to find out that he had been picked up by ICE due to his illegal immigration status. She and an oncologist colleague worked together to convince the authorities to break procedure, bring him to the hospital and have the operation he needed. And then, the oncologist arranged for his continued care at a facility in a different state a few miles from the detention center where he was being held pending deportation. By the time his deportation date rolls around, both Dr. C and the oncologist are certain his cancer will be in remission. But if she hadn't gone that extra mile, this patient would have never survived. And that''s a "MAJOR" thing she did. Speak to any of her patients, and they'll tell you that no one works as hard or has a better bedside manner than Dr. C. In fact, I know people who choose to fly from New York City to Mississippi just to get their colonoscopies done by her. She never asks for recognition, but she deserves to be at the top of this list of clinicians who care.
